[Operating Rate of Silicon Enterprises in Xinjiang Shows Increasing Trend, While Most Silicon Enterprises in Southwest China Have Low Willingness to Resume Production] According to market feedback, from May 16 to May 22, the weekly production of sample silicon plants in Xinjiang was 23,670 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 49%, which was basically stable WoW. Some capacities of large plants in Xinjiang began to resume production, and it is expected that production will be gradually released next week, with an upward trend in the regional operating rate. In terms of in-plant inventory of sample plants, inventory declined due to inventory transfer.

SMM News on May 23: According to market feedback, from May 16 to May 22, the weekly production of sampled silicon plants in Xinjiang was 23,670 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 49%, basically stable WoW. Some capacities of large plants in Xinjiang began to resume production, and production is expected to be released gradually next week, with an upward trend in the regional operating rate. In terms of in-plant inventory of sampled plants, inventory declined due to inventory transfer.

The weekly production of sampled silicon enterprises in north-west China was 10,430 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 77%, stable WoW. The statistical scope of the north-west region includes Qinghai, Ningxia, and Gansu.

The weekly production of sampled silicon enterprises in Yunnan was 1,180 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 13%, unchanged WoW. New projects in Baoshan and Zhaotong, Yunnan, started production, while other halted silicon enterprises remained shut down. Next week, Yunnan's production is expected to increase slightly, but the daily production of new furnaces is unstable, limiting the increase in production.

The weekly production of sampled silicon enterprises in Sichuan was 1,085 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 17%, unchanged MoM. The operating rate of sampled silicon enterprises in Sichuan remained stable during the week, while some silicon enterprises outside the sample resumed production. The overall operating rate in Sichuan maintained a slight upward trend.

This week, ferrous metals were in the doldrums, with coking coal and coke staging a mid-week rise. At the beginning of the week, financial markets experienced sharp fluctuations, dragging down sentiment in the ferrous chain and leading to a pullback in futures. Mid-week, Indonesia's cut to coke production quotas drove coking coal and coke futures to lead the gains, though the impact was more pronounced on thermal coal, while coking coal's rise was largely sentiment-driven and short-lived. In the latter part of the week, finished products continued their seasonal inventory buildup, and support from the raw material side weakened, causing the entire ferrous chain to pull back. In the spot market, with the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, purchasing activity slowed down further, with end-users only making limited, as-needed purchases at low prices.
